‘THEY’RE HYPOCRITICAL’
Opposition has ties with China, supported its investments in country, says Tok Pa
THE opposition’s accusations on Malaysia-China ties not only aim to sow discontent among people, but also reflect its hypocrisy, said International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.
He said a section of the opposition had been relentless in their claims that Malaysia’s relationship with China would affect Malaysia’s sovereignty.
This, he said, reflected the opposition’s hypocrisy as it had also developed ties with China.
“We know that opposition leaders, such as Selangor Menteri Besar (Datuk Seri Azmin Ali) and Penang Chief Minister (Lim Guan Eng) have visited China to promote investment.
“Up above, they issued statements in support of Chinese investment in Malaysia, but down below, they campaign to slam the government.
“They do not practise what they preach. The country’s sovereignty is not under threat.”
He was speaking after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB) MyIBS Sdn Bhd, represented by its deputy chairman, Dr Ir Elias Ismail, and Kelantan Housing Contractors Association, represented by its president, Hasniro Hasbullah, on the use of the Industrial Building System (IBS) at the Perdana Hotel here yesterday.
Present was Works Ministry secretary-gemeral Datuk Seri Zohari Akob and CIDB chief executive Datuk Ahmad Asri Abdul Hamid.
Mustapa said China was the second-largest world economic giant and Malaysia should take the opportunity to attract investment.
“The fear-mongering by the opposition is baseless because all quarters, including the administration, will protect the nation’s sovereignty.”
On Saturday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was quoted as saying the government would not allow any attempt to disrupt the solid relationship between Malaysia and China, and that the opposition’s actions aimed only to sow hatred among the people towards Barisan Nasional.
