CHIEF Minister Lim Guan Eng is unfazed by the Malaysian AntiCorruption Commission’s (MACC) warning that he should refrain from making statements that may be defamatory on cases being investigated by the anti-graft agency.

Lim said he was ready to face any action taken against him for making such statements as he believed what he said was based on the truth.

Yesterday, he told newsmen that MACC was keen on acting against opposition party members, but turned a blind eye to major corruption scandals.

“They take action against the opposition party, especially those in the top line, be it Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali or myself.

“I stand with what I said as it is based on the truth.

“Previously, they (MACC) even said they would take action against me, but until today, I am waiting. If they want to take action, then go ahead.”

On Thursday, MACC urged Lim and Azmin to be cautious when issuing statements, especially if they concerned MACC.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad said the leaders must ensure their statements were not defamatory.

He urged the two state leaders to allow MACC to carry out investigation independently without pressure to ensure the probe was handled objectively and professionally.

In Penang, MACC is probing the state’s proposed RM6.3 billion undersea tunnel project.

On Tuesday, a 37-year-old businessman with the title of Datuk Seri was arrested for allegedly receiving RM19 million in cash in a failed attempt to stop MACC’s investigation.

He was the fifth person to be detained by MACC in the investigation into the undersea tunnel project.

In Selangor, MACC is probing the Ijok land issue. MACC went to five companies on Feb 21, including a law firm, and seized some documents.
