‘Losing her friends has not brought her down’

past few months have been tough for Wendy Ng since testing positive for the banned substance sibutramine at the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games.

In addition to being suspended and unable to train with the national squad, Wendy had also seen a number of her former close friends distancing themselves from her.

However, with her suspension set to come to an end next month, Wendy is now looking forward to bouncing back strongly at the Indonesia Asian Games in August.

“What happened will not dampen my spirit to compete again. Losing my friends has not brought me down,” said Wendy yesterday.

“If fact, what happened has only made me more determined to come back strongly and achieve more success.

“I hope the Malaysian public will not punish me too much but instead support and give me a chance to bounce back.

“I have been training on my own to maintain my fitness and I hope to return to the national team as soon as possible. I can’t wait to compete again.”

Amateur Swimming Union of Malaysia (ASUM) honorary secretary Mae Chen yesterday confirmed that FINA have suspended Wendy for eight months.

The ban is backdated to Aug 26, the date the B sample was taken, and will end on April 26. This means that Wendy will not be able to compete in the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games next but will be eligible for the Asian Games.
