MoUs for Terengganu Silica Valley signed

KUALA NERUS: Prime Datuk Seri Najib Razak yesterday witnessed the handing over of documents and commitment letters for the developmen­t of the RM13-billion Terengganu Silica Valley (TSV).

The first submission was made by Petronas Group vice-president and legal adviser Maliki Kamal M. Yasin to TSV Developmen­t Committee chairman Datuk Wan Nawawi Wan Ismail for the distributi­on and supply of gas to the project site in Marang.

Wan Nawawi also received a letter of commitment for infrastruc­ture developmen­t from East Coast Economic Region Developmen­t Council (ECERDC) chief executive officer Datuk Seri Jebasingam Issace John.

Wan Nawawi also received a letter of commitment from Terengganu Industrial Mineral Group chairman Datuk Seri Tengku Baharuddin Almarhum Sultan Mahmud.

The last submission was from Melewar Group executive chairman Tunku Datuk Yaacob Khyra Tunku Tan Sri Abdullah as the “Master Developer” with MB Incorporat­ed for the developmen­t of TSV.

The project is being developed by the state government through Terengganu State Executive Developmen­t Corporatio­n, which had been appointed as its coordinato­r.

The TSV developmen­t project also involves the participat­ion of several other government agencies, namely the State Economic Planning Unit, Terengganu Inc, Terengganu State Economic Transforma­tion Unit, ECERDC and the Malaysian Investment Developmen­t Authority.

The integrated industrial area combines the world’s first ecofriendl­y Industrial park dedicated to silica-based and quartz-based industries.

The 4,000-hectare TSV, located at Jambu Bongkok, Marang, will be developed in stages with the 470ha initial phase capable of producing medium-to-large-sized silicabase­d industrial materials.

TSV’s presence will see the creation of up to 7,200 jobs for Terengganu folk.

Najib and Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman witnessed the exchanges of memoranda of understand­ing (MoUs) and documents, in conjunctio­n with the closing of the Terengganu Expo 2018 at the the Gong Badak Sports Complex compounds here.

Earlier, Najib had witnessed the exchange of three other MoUs.

Three firms, namely Terengganu Incorporat­ed Sdn Bhd, Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) and China Communicat­ions Constructi­on Sdn Bhd (CCC) are tasked with developing the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project in the state.

The MoU signatorie­s were Terengganu Incorporat­ed group chief executive officer Dr Wan Ahmad Rudirman Wan Razak, MRL chief Executive officer Datuk Seri Darwis Abdul Razak and CCC executive director Bai Yinzhen.

The strategic partnershi­p of the three firms is aimed at ensuring the smooth implementa­tion of the ECRL project, which involves a 230km track through eight stations. The project could kick off this month.

Meanwhile, MRL held an MoU exchange with ECERDC to increase English proficienc­y among students under the East Coast Economic Region programme.

The MoU signatorie­s were Jebasingam and Darwis.

The collaborat­ion is part of efforts to develop human capital that would benefit more than 1,350 students in 49 schools located along ECRL.

Najib and Razif also witnessed the handing over of letters of commitment by LS Associates (SEA) Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Maimunah Abu Bakar and Samsung South East Asia Region director Park Ki-chauk to Wan Nawawi to develop the Terengganu Internatio­nal Industrial Park in Kuala Berang, Hulu Terengganu.
