Family hopes to give son proper burial

-

BERA: “My family and I have accepted that Khairul is gone forever,” said Selamat Omar, father of Mohd Khairul Amri Selamat, a passenger on board the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370.

“However, please find his body.”

Selamat, 63, when met at his home in Felda Bukit Mendi, said he was disillusioned with the odds of finding Khairul and the 238 people on board the airplane after four years of search proved futile.

“Four years have gone by and we do not know anything concrete. We have to accept the fact that he is gone.

“But, where is his body? We hope the authorities will find his remains, so we can give him a proper burial. I am willing to wait as he is my flesh and blood.

“Every day I pray for peace and the return of my son, including a swift resolution, so that there will be no speculation.”

Khairul, 29, an aviation engineer, was headed for Beijing from Kuala Lumpur to carry out repairs on an aircraft there.

The youngest of three siblings was said to be a kind-hearted, responsible and caring person.

“I remember our last conversation at 8pm before Khairul went to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

“He told me to take care of myself and be consistent with taking my medication for diabetes.

“He always reminded me of the matter, so I will not forget the conversation between us — my last memory of him,” Selamat said.

He said he was satisfied with the government’s handling of the case and Malaysia Airlines Bhd, which provided weekly information on the search mission to families of the victims.

“We get updates on the developments, and extend our gratitude to the government for agreeing to extend the search of MH370 by appointing a company (Ocean Infinity Limited).

“This shows that the government wants to solve the mystery and satisfy all parties, especially the families (of the victims).”
