HEALTH D-G: NO SALMONELLA CASES
Viral message about Klang Valley outbreak incorrect, says Dr Noor Hisham
THERE are no food poisoning cases due to water contamination in the Klang Valley, Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said yesterday.
He rubbished a WhatsApp message that went viral, claiming that there was a salmonella outbreak in the Klang Valley.
“The content of the message is incorrect and cannot be trusted,” he said.
Checks and verification on infectious diseases in the country showed that there were no increase in food poisoning incidents in the country.
“Such incidents are remote and controlled.
“They have nothing to do with water supply or disruption.”
The message, purportedly based on information from a government hospital doctor, urged the public to be cautious when consuming food and drinks from eateries.
The message also claimed that the contamination was from a water source and the outbreak was lifethreatening.
Dr Noor Hisham said the ministry would continue to monitor food poisoning incidents in the country.
“People should not be worried about such incidents.
“Do not believe messages that have not been verified by the ministry.”
He advised people to practise good personal hygiene and maintain a clean environment .
“Most importantly, people must ensure that the food and drinks they consume are safe from contamination so that they do not get food poisoning.”
