Lexus tops JD Power’s dependability study
our trademark reliability to classleading refinement, we are deeply committed to delivering superior quality in all that we do. This means providing the highest quality of attention and care at every level - from design conception to dealership and from purchase to service - to provide the best possible ownership experience.
“In Malaysia, we are constantly raising the bar and setting higher standards to be on a par, if not better, than our counterparts around the world,” said Lexus Malaysia president Ravindran Kurusamy.
The VDS focuses on problems experienced by original owners of 3-year-old vehicles. Study findings are used extensively by manufacturers worldwide to help them design and build better vehicles - which typically retain higher resale value - and by consumers to help them make more informed choices for both new and used vehicles.
According to the research firm, the overall vehicle dependability improves nine per cent from 2017, the first time the industry score has improved since 2013.
The study, now in its 29th year, measures the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100) during the past 12 months by original owners of 2015 model-year vehicles. A lower score reflects higher quality, and the study covers 177 specific problems grouped into eight major vehicle categories. The overall industry average improved by 14 PP100 to 142 PP100 from 156 PP100 in 2017.
“For the most part, automotive manufacturers continued to meet consumers’ vehicle dependability expectations. A nine per cent improvement is extremely impressive, and vehicle dependability is, without question, at its best level ever. For people looking for a new or used model, now is a good time to find that special vehicle,”said J.D Power vice-president for global automotive Dave Sargent.
The 2018 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study is based on responses from 36,896 original owners of 2015 model-year vehicles after three years of ownership. The study was fielded in October-December 2017.
