Hospital tells patients to bring own water

- Awaina Arbee By

SHAH ALAM: When Wan Awateef admitted her 79-year-old grandmother to a private hospital, she did not expect having to bring her water supply from home.

Due to the poor water supply, she and her family members had to take nine big bottles to her grandmother’s room.

“My grandmother was admitted yesterday afternoon, and we were told by the staff there that because there was no water supply, patients’ families had to bring their own water.

“This is astonishing as this is a big hospital. Surely it must have a contingency plan to prepare for water cuts?”

To add to the woes, according to Awateef, the air-conditioning system had been switched off due to the water cut.

“So, not only do we have to bring our water bottles for my sick grandmother, we also have to bring a portable fan.”

Another visitor, who wished to be known only as Arif, questioned why the hospital management did not prepare for the water cuts.

“It’s not like we were not informed of the water cuts.

“Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) has issued a list of areas affected by the water cut and I’m sure Section 20 was listed,” he said.

KPJ Selangor Specialist Hospital is in Section 20 here.

A hospital spokesman said a backup plan was in place to deal with the water crisis. In Klang, a Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital spokesman said the hospital was not affected.

“Although we were included in the list of affected areas, thankfully, we still have water supply.

“We have installed water tanks to prepare for emergencies.”
