BARISAN Nasional’s manifesto for the 14th General Election (GE14) will cater to the needs of youth, said its chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Najib, who is also prime minister, said BN had a clear agenda for the younger generation.

“I agree with (Umno Youth chief) Khairy Jamaluddin’s proposal to include a special section for young people.

“We (via BN’s 14th General Election manifesto) will take into account issues concerning knowledge and skills. We will include (issues of) wages, job opportunities, housing and lifestyle of youth.

“All of these will be included in the manifesto,” said Najib to rapturous applause from 20,000 BN Youth and Puteri members at the Pagoh National Youth Skills Institute here yesterday.

Najib was speaking at the launch of the BN wings’ election machineries. Among those present were Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Khairy, Umno Youth deputy chief Senator Khairul Azwan Harun and Puteri Umno vice-chief Zahida Zarik Khan.

Najib’s presence for the second time in the parliamentary constituency here received a rousing turnout from youth.

Najib, who is also Umno president, said Umno was a party for not only today, but also for the future. This, he said, was in contrast with the promises for youth made by a certain “Parti Bunga” — in a thinly-veiled reference to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM).

He said a certain 93-year-old leader of the party had allegedly said they (Umno) were not a party for today. Najib is believed to be referring to PPBM chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“This is not just a message for the youth of today. Our message is to support not only the government of today, but also for the future.”
