‘It’s irrational for Azmin to blame Najib for water issue’

-

SHAH ALAM: Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali is being irrational in blaming Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak for the state’s water crisis, says Kuala Selangor member of parliament Datuk Seri Dr Irmohizam Ibrahim.

Irmohizam said it had become the norm for the state government to mislead the people by pointing fingers and blaming the Federal Government for its problems.

“The Selangor menteri besar’s act of blaming the prime minister is uncalled for.

“They (the state government) are blaming someone else for their poor administration.

“Selangor State Legislative Assembly Speaker (Hannah Yeoh) also blamed Syarikat Pengeluaran Air Sungai Selangor Sdn Bhd (SPLASH) over the water supply disruption in the Klang Valley.

“This is despite the fact that SPLASH is owned by the state government, which owns a 30 per cent equity in the company through Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Bhd.

“What the Federal Government has agreed to undertake to execute the takeover under the Water Services Industry Act has failed to be followed through by Azmin,” he said yesterday.

Irmohizam said the failure in reaching the agreement had led to people suffering.

“How far is the menteri besar willing to go while his people queue up for water?

“What is more disappointing is that Pakatan Harapan’s manifesto does not touch on resolving Selangor’s water issue.”

He said the Pakatan Harapan’s manifesto was populist in nature and not aimed at resolving the water problem.

He said basic needs, such as water, could not be used to gain political mileage.

“As such, the state government must focus on resolving this issue instead of blaming others.”
