Ex-leaders laud RoS’ warning to deregister PPBM

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) grassroots leaders have lauded the notice sent by the Registry of Societies (RoS) to the party, warning that it faced deregistration if it does not furnish proof that it adhered to its constitution.

Former PPBM Youth exco member Abdul Wahazir Abdul Wahabi said it was proof that the party had not adhered to regulations regarding its annual general meeting, and that there were “illegal wings”, such as the Youth wing, which were not listed in the party constitution.

“This is a victory for members and former members who had exposed the actions of leaders who craved power.

“History has shown that those who want to bring down governments for their own interests and to extend their own political shelf life will not last long.

“Their victims are the people, those who believe in their rhetoric, that they will fight for the future and rights of the people.”

On Friday, RoS director-general Surayati Ibrahim said the agency had given PPBM 20 days to furnish documents, information and minutes of all party meetings as well as financial statements.

She said failure to do so could lead to the party’s deregistration.

Former Kelantan PPBM Youth chief Mohamed Hilmi Che Ramli also welcomed RoS’ move, following some 400 complaints lodged against the party by members and former members.

“This is the time for PPBM to prove that these complaints from members, whom they claimed had eaten dedak, are not correct and that the party was never in the wrong.”

Former Klang PPBM Youth chief Mohd Khairol Faizal Mohd Nordin said he and his colleagues were glad that their efforts to expose the party leadership’s wrongdoings would yield positive results.

He said it was not impossible that PPBM would fail to furnish the documents demanded by RoS, adding that the agency had the right to deregister the party.

“PPBM leaders like to blame RoS, saying that the agency is biased. But this proves that RoS has done its duty with honesty and integrity.

“The irony is that PPBM went against its own constitution.”
