HARLEY-DAVIDSON STARTS NEW JOURNEY

- ARMAN AHMAD

HARLEY-Davidson Malaysia swung open the doors of its new swanky 20,000 sq ft showroom in Petaling Jaya on Friday, marking the start of the franchise operated by DIDI Resources Sdn Bhd. its newly appointed sole authorised distributor in Malaysia.

The showroom at The Gasket Alley in Petaling Jaya, operates under Goh Brothers Motorcycles Sdn Bhd, a company under Goh Brothers Capital, a retailer for several automotive brands in Malaysia.

Harley-Davidson had announced it would undergo a dealer refresh in the Malaysian market in September last year.

The motor company said the dealership refresh was part of its long-term objective to grow its international business to 50 per cent of annual volume.

The new showroom offers the entire range of motorcycles from the American manufacturer, including the Road Glide Special and MY18 Softail lineup, as well as the limited edition 115th anniversary Street Glide.

Aside from the motorcycles, the new dealership also sells Harley-Davidson general merchandise and Harley-Davidson parts and accessories.

Service capabilities include six fully equipped service bays and a body and paint centre, all manned by technicians trained at Harley-Davidson University.

The launch event was attended by Harley Davidson riders from all over the country.

Also present at the event were Didi Resources Sdn Bhd chairman Rewi Hamid Bugo, Goh Brothers Motorcycles Sdn Bhd chairman Goh Kian Sin and Harley-Davidson Asia Emerging Markets managing director Johan Kleinsteuber.

“As the authorised distributor of HarleyDavidson motorcycles in Malaysia, we are working closely with Harley-Davidson Motor Company in supporting the growth of the brand in Malaysia, with more exciting opening announcements to come in 2018” said Rewi at the opening ceremony.

Goh said the company was honoured to be given the opportunity to be the torch bearer for the brand.

“We are honoured that Harley-Davidson has given us the trust to carry the brand by becoming the first Harley-Davidson dealership in Malaysia under the refreshed Malaysia dealer network. Our strengths are built based on our extensive experience in automotive retail for several premium brands and operating 4S centres nationwide.

“We are confident that we would be able to serve our Harley-Davidson customers by providing the best follow-up service and support”.

Meanwhile, Kleinsteuber said the brand would continue to serve existing and potential customers who had a passion for HarleyDavidson, and added that their products were now closer to motorcycling enthusiasts in Kuala Lumpur and across Asia.

At the event, the formation of Harley Owner’s Group (HOG) Petaling Jaya Chapter was also announced by Harley Davidson of Petaling Jaya.

The chapter’s inaugural ride took place yesterday with participation from more than 500 Harley-Davidson owners riding from Petaling Jaya to Tanjung Malim, Perak.
