Teh named greatest local banker of all time
KUALA LUMPUR: Public Bank Bhd founder and chairman Tan Sri Dr Teh Hong Piow has been awarded The BrandLaureate’s “The Greatest Malaysian Banker of All Time” by the Asia Pacific Brands Foundation.
BrandLaureate president Dr KK Johan presented the award to Teh at the Public Bank management seminar dinner at the Mines International Exhibition and Convention Centre here on Saturday.
Johan said for the past 50 years, there was no other banker extraordinaire that had steadfastly grown the bank to record breaking feats, positive growth year after year and a RM5.47 billion net profit in 2017 achieved through organic growth and strategic moves.
“The brilliant mind of Tan Sri Teh Hong Piow has no match and his astounding knowledge of the banking industry puts him ahead of the competition... He defines banking leadership and, with his principles and philosophy, has set standards of good banking practices which are emulated and respected by his peers,” he added.
Public Bank managing director Tan Sri Tay Ah Lek said Teh was the mark of an ideal leader whose hopes and dreams for Public Bank knew no bounds.
Teh’s leadership had not only propelled Public Bank to the forefront of the Malaysian financial landscape but also to gain international respect and acclaim, he added.
