NAJIB WARNS BN COMPONENT PARTIES AGAINST BETRAYAL

AWEEK after taking a swipe at Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali over the state’s water crisis, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak yesterday said opposition parties placed more importance on their political agenda and ignored the welfare of the people.

He said this could be clearly seen in the water crisis in the Klang Valley that had affected one million residents.

“When you don’t prioritise the people, when you place more importance on political interest, what is the outcome? The state is supposed to be more developed than Melaka, but its water issue has not been fixed.

“For the water issue, the Federal Government has offered RM22 billion and Pahang folk have offerred to sell Pahang water, but the problem persists.”

In his speech in Sungai Rambai, Najib cited how Melaka had become a successful state that the country could be proud of, thanks to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron’s leadership.

“We can see that the Melaka government is better at administering a state (than Selangor),” he said to loud cheers.

Najib last week chided Azmin for his failure to resolve Selangor’s water woes, a crisis he said which was more critical than 1Malaysia Development Bhd’s debt.

He also trained his guns on the Penang government, which he said had failed to build more affordable housing.

“You (Penang government) don’t walk the talk. They have said they are going to build more affordable housing, but they are building a tunnel,” he said, referring to the controversial proposed RM6.3 billion undersea tunnel project.

Najib was speaking during an event here where he announced that Sungai Rambai would be the first small district in Melaka.

Present were his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, and former Melaka chief minister Tan Sri Mohd Ali Rustam.

He also announced that the Federal Government had approved RM290 million for flood mitigation projects in four areas in Melaka; Bandar Jasin, Merlimau, Sungai Duyong and Alor Gajah.

He said the government would increase the number of streetlights in 194 villages in Melaka, benefiting 58,200 residents.
