PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has lambasted an opposition leader for mocking the Goods and Services Tax (GST) at the recent launch of the Penang People’s Tuition Centre in the DAP-led state.

Without naming names, he said the opposition leader from a northern state was willing to stoop to the level of indoctrinating children with hatred towards the government.

He said this contrasted with the Federal Government’s push to instil noble values in children as part of the National Transformation 2050 (TN50) initiative.

“TN50 aims to not only elevate the country to among the top 20 nations in the world, but also to plant the seed for core (noble) values in society. To care for those in trouble and the less fortunate.

“This contrasts with what an opposition leader in a northern state is doing, where he stooped to using children to plant hatred against the government via a song on GST.

“Don’t take heed of his stupid act. We do not exploit our children that way,” said Najib.

He said this at the groundbreaking of Southern Zone Permata Kurnia Project at Rumahku Syurgaku in Bukit Katil here yesterday afternoon.

It was reported that Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng was being investigated by police following reports accusing him of indoctrinating children in hate politics by mocking the GST in a A, B, C song parody.

A 32-second video showing Lim dancing while mocking the GST at the launch of the tuition centre has since gone viral.

The song was said to contain lyrics about 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

Netizens have also taken to social media to condemn Lim’s “low-class act”.

In Putrajaya, Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said it was unbecoming of Lim to drag children into politics by mocking the GST.

He said it was unbecoming for a chief minister to act in such a manner.

“It is really weird for a chief minister to behave as such, and DAP’s hate politics is just like ahli politik jalanan (carpetbagger).

“It (DAP) wants to politicise everything. As a multi-racial nation, DAP should promote the value of togetherness, not drag children into politics,” he said.

In Butterworth, three former DAP members yesterday lodged a police report against Lim over the issue.

Former DAP Bagan Luar branch chairman G. Asoghan said Lim’s action was seen as an attempt to poison the minds of children.

“We are disappointed. As a seasoned politician, he should know better.
