Don’t betray each other, Najib tells Barisan component parties

-

AYER KEROH: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has warned all members and component parties of Barisan Nasional not to betray each other in the 14th General Election (GE14).

Najib, who is also BN chairman, said all component parties must cooperate and work hard as a family to ensure a big win for BN.

“We should not be shooting at our own feet. We should not be kicking our friends’ legs.

“If Umno wins, BN wins. If MCA wins, BN wins. If MIC wins, BN wins. If Gerakan wins, BN wins. If MyPPP (People’s Progressive Party) wins, BN wins,” he said to roars of approval from BN members and supporters at the launch of the Bukit Katil BN election machinery here yesterday.

He said it was especially important for the coalition to not only retain four parliamentary seats, but also wrest the Bukit Katil parliament seat in GE14.

He said BN must also wrest four additional state seats in Melaka, to add to the 21 state seats held by BN.

The Bukit Katil seat is held by PKR’s Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin.

Najib questioned what the current Bukit Katil MP had done for the constituency, adding that there was a lack of change and development in the area.

“If given the opportunity to BN, we will bring change. We will ensure the setting up of a service centre for the people.”

He also slammed the opposition, saying they were only good at making empty promises, concocting fairy tales and instigating the people.

“They make a lot of promises. Ask them about the water crisis in Selangor and the undersea tunnel project in Penang. Who is building affordable homes?” he said, alluding to the opposition’s weakness in providing infrastructure for the people.

He said the opposition was also always making fun of and spreading lies about BN’s efforts to develop the country.

Citing the former Sungai Besi Air Base site, which is set for redevelopment, as example, he said the opposition had lied that the project belonged to China, when in fact, it was Malaysian-owned.

Najib said he recently paid a working visit to the Sendayan Air Base in Seremban and met with armed forces personnel there.

He said the staff were happy with the comfortable housing provided by the government.

“Do not believe them (the opposition) because they lie a lot. And now, they are influencing young children about the GST (Goods and Services Tax) when it is with the GST that the government is providing facilities like schools and hospitals,” he said.

Present were Melaka BN chairman Datuk Seri Idris Haron, Bukit Katil BN chairman Tan Sri Mohd Ali Rustam, Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, and Najib’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.

Earlier, when officiating the 2018 Cooperatives Day at the Melaka International Trade Centre here, Najib voiced his support for the proposed amendment of the Cooperatives Act 1993 (Amendment 2007).

“As mentioned by Hamzah earlier on amending the Cooperatives Act, I pledge my full support for this initiative,” he said.

He also expressed delight over the performance of the cooperatives sector, adding that it had helped boost the economy.

In an effort to empower the sector, Najib announced that the government had approved an allocation of RM200 million for the cooperatives involved in turning the 1Malaysia People’s Shop (KR1M) into a huge success.

He called on players in the sector to continue playing their role in creating entrepreneurs for Malaysia to achieve its National Transformation 2050 (TN50) vision.

“We want to see more development, as what we have envisioned in TN50. This is how we can lift Malaysia up to be among one of the top 20 countries.

“To achieve this vision, every component in the society must play its role to ensure that we will move towards a bigger success.”
