Johari: Attack against me is just a case of sour grapes
KUALA LUMPUR: Titiwangsa member of parliament Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said the “naughty actions” of certain quarters in putting up banners urging Barisan Nasional to drop him as a candidate for the general elections are just a case of sour grapes.
The second finance minister said he was not surprised by such a move as this was normal in politics, adding that he was confident that he had the support of the majority of voters in the constituency.
“In the last general election, there were those who circulated a ‘cut-and-paste’ animation, claiming I did not care about whether the Chinese and Indians voted for me. That was probably the work of insiders as well.
“At the end of the day, however, the voters had confidence in me.
“They cannot be fooled and know better the value of a person,” he said after flagging off the Kembara Bermotosikal Tabung Amanah Warisan Polis programme at the city police headquarters here.
Johari said the people of the Titiwangsa constituency were educated and could judge for themselves whether a leader cared for them from the heart.
Umno Titiwangsa deputy chief Datuk Affendi Zahari said division members and eight non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the area were behind Johari and urged that a probe be carried out to find out who was trying to sabotage the minister.
He said Umno members and NGOs believed that this was a planned attack against Johari’s good name.
“We hope that police will find out who is behind such slander.
“We don’t deny the possibility that this is the work of someone inside the division.
“In politics, the opposition will use anything they can, and one way is to get an insider to do such things,” he said after lodging a report at the Dang Wangi police headquarters.
Affendi said the group hoped that the Umno disciplinary board would look into the issue, especially if the person involved was a party member.
