COPS IDENTIFY 14 CHALLENGES TO STAYING RELEVANT
IGP says these include border security and cybercrimes
POLICE have identified 14 main challenges and transformations needed to ensure that the force remains relevant. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the challenges included areas such as border security, cybercrimes, internal security threats, extremism and radicalism, as well as legal and organisational workings.
“Realising the challenges, police have set integrity as the (main) pillar. This is because integrity can shape ethics and other values, such as rational thinking, to prevent corruption and abuse of power.
“Understanding the importance of a team with high integrity, we (police), through the Integrity and Standard Compliance Department’s Religious and Counselling Branch, had introduced a psychology and spiritual based programme, known as My Psychology Spiritual,” Fuzi said at the Police College in Cheras.
According to him, among the efforts and commitments taken by police to ensure the force are at high-integrity levels included education and awareness programmes, as well as actions against police officers who failed to abide by rules and regulations.
He said, apart from maintaining integrity in the force, police were also looking at drug abuse and issues with police officers having large debts.
“It will give a negative impact to the image of the force if these issues are not solved.
“We are working with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and Bank Negara Malaysia to solve the issue.”
