Shaw on Chelsea radar

-

LONDON: Chelsea are ready to offer Luke Shaw a way out of Manchester United if the unhappy England defender leaves Old Trafford this summer.

Shaw’s future at United has been thrown into doubt once again after he was substituted at half-time against Brighton at the weekend and then subjected to more criticism from Jose Mourinho.

Shaw, 22, who is a Chelsea fan along with the rest of his family, is said to have been driven to despair by his treatment at the hands of Mourinho, and is likely to leave United at the end of the season — unless the manager goes first.

Sportsmail understand that Shaw’s camp are aware of interest from Chelsea, who lost out to United in the battle to sign the teenager when he left Southampton for United in a £31million (RM170.5 million) deal in 2014.

Manchester City, Arsenal, Everton and Tottenham — managed by Shaw’s former Saints coach Mauricio Pochettino — could also come into the reckoning if he leaves Old Trafford after four years.

It is no secret that Mourinho wants Tottenham left-back Danny Rose as a replacement for Shaw.

United triggered the 12-month option on Shaw’s £70,000-aweek deal to make sure he is under contract until the summer of 2019, and must now decide whether to sell him to one of their main rivals at the end of the season.

However, Shaw will not be forced out of the club unless it suits him and could decide to leave on a more lucrative free transfer next year.
