champions Penang Sports Club (PSC) retained the Penang 30 Overs League title after crushing UST Global, an IT company in Bayan Lepas comprising mostly Bangaladeshi expatriates, by six wickets recently.

PSC passed the target of 194 runs in 25.5 overs at the PSC Oval in George Town.

PSC won the toss and let UST Global bat. The latter scored 194 runs in 30 overs for the loss of two wickets. Top scorers for UST were Arun Rajan who scored 54 runs before retiring due to injury, B. Ashok 84 runs not out and Kshitiz Gupta 19 runs, while wicket takers for PSC were Arjun Kumar, one wicket for 24 runs in six overs and Bazeek Zaka one wicket for 34 runs in six overs.

At the second inning, PSC passed 194 runs in 25.5 overs to win the PCA 30 Overs Challenge Trophy for the second consecutive year.

Top scorers for PSC were R. Randy, 78 runs (retired due to injury), Chandu Shah 50 runs, Bazeek Zaka 18 runs not out and Yasir Basir 15 runs, while the wicket takers for UST were Kshitiz One for 40 runs in six overs, Rahul one for 20 runs in two overs and Ajay one for 42 runs in five overs.

PSC cricket captain Shahul Hameed said while last year was a very challenging year, winning the PCA 30 Overs league title is a good start for his team and that they were looking forward to winning more titles.

“We have been participating at the 30 Overs league for many years but this was the only second time that we had won. Credit should go to our two Indian expatriates, Rathimavel and Chintu, who not only performed very well but had also guided our players.”

Shahul receved the challenge trophy from PCA past president V. Murali and their new president P. Vadamalai. Shahrul said they completed the league without losing a single game, which by itself shows their hard work, adding that with a few young players, including Rathimavel and Chintu and a couple of other expatriates, they hope to taste more success.
