International Circuit (SIC) yesterday unveiled their Motorsports Talent Development Initiative (MDEV).

This is to boost talent development in both two-wheel and four-wheel motorsports in Malaysia for this year.

A total of 14 drivers and riders have been named in the programme which will see them groomed to compete at the highest level.

For four-wheels, SIC announced that Jazeman Jaafar, Afiq Ikhwan Yazid, Nabil Jeffri and Weiron Tan will be competing in the World Endurance Championships (WEC) 20182019 season in the LMP2 class with the Jackie Chan DC Racing X Jota team.

SIC also confirmed that Mitchell Cheah will compete in the TCR Asia Championship this season with German team Engstler Motosport.

SIC chief executive officer Datuk Razlan Razali said MDEV is intended to groom Malaysian drivers and riders to become world class and independent.

“We are a track operator in general but the government has given us a mandate to develop talent for the country,” said Razlan.

In a bid to ensure a continuous supply of riders, SIC confirmed that two riders from their Impian ke MotoGP development programme — Muhammad Izam Ikmal and Muhammad Idil Fitri — will be competing in the FIM CEV Moto3 World Junior Championships which kick off in Estoril, Spain, this weekened.

Three other Impian ke MotoGP riders Mohd Daniel Syahmi, Danial El Fahim and Muhammad Harith Haziq will be competing in the Malaysia Superbike Championships and Malaysia Cub Prix Championships.
