Baker Hughes eyes more oilfield services projects in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Baker Hughes, a full-stream oilfield services company, will bid for more oilfield services projects in Malaysia.

Baker Hughes Asia-Pacific president Visal Leng said despite a moderate growth outlook in the oil and gas (O&G) industry this year, Malaysia was still considered a key market in Southeast Asia.

“We think Malaysia is coping quite well with Petroliam Nasiaonl Bhd seen as a trendsetter of the industry and a benchmark to its regional peers.

“We aim to drive our capabilities forward to remain competitive,” he said at a roundtable session ahead of the Offshore Technology Asia 2018 conference, here.

On the outlook of the O&G industry, Leng said Baker Hughes expected a slow and steady recovery, with cost savings remaining the main agenda for many companies.

“We see new technologies offering solutions to cost savings, and giving O&G players the insight to evaluate the viability of projects they wish to carry out.”

Last week, Baker Hughes and McDermott International Inc said they were partnering to offer integrated offshore energy services in order to better compete with other players.

Their first partnership is to provide integrated front-end engineering work for British oil major BP’s latest West African development, offshore of Senegal and Mauritania.
