‘Hip-hop culture is social media of music’

- By Aref Omar

HIP-HOP rapper, songwriter and music producer Mikael Adam Lozach, better known as SonaOne, is known for his smooth blend of witty lyrics with jazzy and soulful sounds.

The 29-year-old artiste feels that hip-hop is a cultural vehicle of expression in our society.

He said: “It’s an important genre because it promotes individuality, creativity and fun, while voicing out opinions.”

The rapper added that it was important to youth. He said: “You get to experience the good, the bad, the beautiful and the ugly of life while being entertained. In a way, hip-hop culture is like the social media of music and modern culture.”

SonaOne will be performing at the youth-oriented Gegaria Fest this Saturday at Dataran Amanjaya, Meru in Ipoh, Perak.

“I’ll be performing a medley of songs from my debut album Growing Up Sucks,” he said.

“I hope I get a chance to meet my fans in Ipoh and express to them my gratitude and appreciation. They can expect a fun and memorable evening with other amazing performers and myself.”

The Gegaria Fest concert, which starts at 8.45pm, will feature Nabila Razali, Noh Salleh, Kugiran Masdo and Bunkface.

The free event organised by Media Prima has many activities lined up, such as e-Games, traditional games, cooking demonstrations, fashion tutorials and exhibitions.

Celebrities and social media influencers such as Faizdickie, Elfira Loy, Ramona Zamzam, Hanif Shawn, Nadia Brian and Point Blanc will be there to meet fans.

Gegaria Fest runs from 8am to 11pm. Visit www.facebook.com /gogegaria or www.instagram.com/gogegaria for details.
