‘Selangor must resolve water industry restructuring issue’
GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) has advised the Selangor government to immediately resolve its water industry restructuring agreement with the Federal Government.
PBAPP chief executive officer Datuk Jaseni Maidinsa said this was to ensure that there were no more repeats of the water crisis in Selangor.
He said it was only fair for the Selangor government to meet the Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry and other stakeholders to come up with a solution.
He said Selangor’s water problems could be resolved if all parties focused on finding a solution instead of politicising the issue.
“Do not delay it. Do it quickly and prioritise the basic needs of the people,” he told a press conference yesterday.
PBAPP was given the Best Water Supply Operator in Malaysia and Efficiency Award in the water industry category at the ministry’s Industry Awards in 2013.
About 2.5 million people in Selangor were affected when water supply came to a halt recently following critical repair and maintenance work at the Sungai Selangor Phase 3 water treatment plant in Bukit Badong, Ijok.
The water cut, which was supposed to run for four days, stretched to a week following an accident at the treatment plant that left five people injured.
The water disruption involved 427 areas in the Klang Valley, including Kuala Lumpur, Klang, Shah Alam, Gombak, Hulu Selangor and Kuala Langat.
