‘WORK HARD TO WIN BIG’
Party machinery must accept decision as list of candidates is final, says Zahid
THE Barisan Nasional machinery in Terengganu must work hard to increase the marginal seats it won in the 13th General Election, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
“BN candidates chosen to represent the party at the parliamentary and state constituencies must win big in the 14th General Election.
“We choose the candidates based on the aspirations of the rakyat, and not solely based on the choices.
“Everyone must accept whoever is chosen as candidates with an open heart. Those not selected as candidates must close ranks.
“We have many aspirants who are qualified, but we have vetted all potential candidates by putting the people’s preference as the first criteria.
“I know many aspirants feel that they are the best choice, but the party made the best choice,” he said at the launch of the Hulu Terengganu BN election machinery in Kuala Berang here yesterday.
Present were Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman and Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Jailani Johari.
Zahid said aspirants must have faith and “we know that problems, such as sulking, will surface when candidates are announced”.
“I do not want chah keting (bringing opponents down) to happen. Decisions were made based on research and intelligence inputs.
“The list of candidates is final and the party machinery must accept the decision. The party machinery must work hard to ensure that BN wins big,” he said, reminding the audience about BN losing its hold on the government when Pas nearly whitewashed it with 28 seats against BN’s four seats in the 1999 General Election.
Zahid said party members must not entertain differences or face losing Terengganu to the opposition.
He said the construction of a mosque at Kampung Pasir Dula, which costs RM4 million, was approved.
