‘FIELD MORE WOMEN IN GE14’
Make women’s voices part of party’s struggles, says Mas Ermieyati
PUTERI Umno is hoping that the party’s leadership will field more women candidates, especially among the younger generation, in the 14th General Election (GE14).
Its chief, Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, said the request was in line with the Barisan Nasional manifesto, which aims to uplift women to a higher level.
“I believe that the leadership is considering the candidates and I am hopeful that more women will be appointed as representatives.
“Today, more than 51 per cent of women involved in the private and government sectors are highly-educated.
“Therefore, it is important to make the voices of women part of the party’s struggle,” she said after visiting a craft laboratory in Kampung Seri Tanjung here yesterday.
Present was Malaysian Handicraft Development Corporation (Malaysian Handicraft) director-general Ibrahim Ismail.
Mas Ermieyati, who is deputy tourism and culture minister, called for the nation’s craft industry to be expanded to the international level.
She called on young people to be involved in the craft industry as it could generate high income.
“The number of young people involved in craft is low. Most of the ones in the industry are the elderly.
“The government, through Malaysian Handicraft, had always encouraged the involvement of young people.
“The cooperation between designers, craft instructors and entrepreneurs can develop high quality handcraft.”
