Wee: I will not underestimate my opponent

-

BATU PAHAT: MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said he will not underestimate whoever his opponent is in the 14th General Election (GE14).

The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department said he was ready to defend the Ayer Hitam parliamentary seat if he was nominated as candidate by the Barisan Nasional leadership.

While he is expected to face Johor DAP chairman Liew Chin Tong, Wee said he was not afraid but did not look down on anyone who would be his opponent.

“I will not look down on whoever it is that will contest, as it is my philosophy to respect those contesting in the area.”

Wee said he preferred to respect his opponent rather than say unsavoury things about his opponent.

“I think anyone who wishes to contest is mentally prepared and it is not impossible for the person to think of victory... surely, if it is not about winning, why would anyone want to contest?”

He said this after the announcement of a special scholarship to study at 10 universities in China, at Yong Peng High School here yesterday.

In the last general election, Wee defeated Pas candidate Hu Pang Chaw with a majority of 7,310 votes.

Earlier, he said the scholarships worth RM20.7 million would benefit 322 local students who wanted to pursue bachelor’s degrees and higher studies in China.
