Hisham: Terrorism an unavoidable threat
KUALA LUMPUR: Defence Mininster Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein says terrorism is an unavoidable and serious threat in Southeast Asia.
He said terrorism, which not long ago was unheard of in the region, was one of the main problems facing most of the nations in the world.
“Terrorism is one of the biggest security threats facing every country, including Malaysia,” he said at the Defence Services Asia (DSA) 2018 exhibition and conference, and National Security (Natsec) Asia exhibition at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre.
Hishammuddin said the issue of terrorism was the main focus of DSA and Natsec Asia.
“The war against extremism cannot be won alone.
“It requires cooperation between nations.”
He said it was important to nip any terror plan in the bud.
“This is why DSA and Natsec Asia are ideal platforms to discuss and find ways to curb terrorism.
“These exhibitions will allow participating countries to look at weapons and other equipment which they may need to fight terrorism, and share expertise and viewpoints on defence.”
Hishammuddin spent two hours touring the exhibitions and was given a replica of a 13th Century Ottoman sword, the “Yatagan Sword”, by Turkey’s FNSS Defence System in appreciation of Malaysia’s efforts in organising DSA and Natsec Asia.
