KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Razak led Umno leaders in paying tribute to Tan Sri Napsiah Omar and extended their condolences to her family following her death yesterday.

His posting was accompanied by a picture of Napsiah.

“Innalillahiwainnailaihirajiun (We surely belong to Allah and to Him we shall return). Perginya pejuang Umno dan Tokoh Melayu Terbilang, Tan Sri Napsiah Omar. Saya masih ingat kata-kata Allahyarhamah, bahawa yang menjadikan Umno hidup dan kuat adalah ahli-ahlinya. Semoga roh Allahyarhamah dicucuri rahmat. Al-Fatihah (An Umno warrior and great Malay figure has left us. I still remember what she said, that Umno lives and is strong because of its members. May her soul be blessed.” he said.

Wanita Umno chief Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, in a Facebook post, offered her condolences to Napsiah’s family and said she planned to hold a tahlil with all 191 Wanita divisions.

She said Napsiah, who was Wanita Umno permanent chairman, was a true warrior, was incomparable and an icon of the women’s wing.

“She had been fighting for decades, and the fruits of her labour can be felt by all women and the country.

“Her legacy of unity has become the bond which strengthens 1.4 million Wanita Umno members.”

Puteri Umno chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said Napsiah’s death was a loss for the nation. She said Napsiah had been instrumental in uplifting the role and status of women in Malaysia in the 1990s.
