MIC likely to contest Kapar parliamentary seat
SHAH ALAM: The Kapar federal constituency may see notable names from the Barisan Nasional coalition contesting the 14th General Election (GE14).
A source from BN told the New Straits Times Press yesterday that the parliamentary seat had been allocated to MIC, while Umno candidates would be fielded in the three state assembly seats — Meru, Sementa and Selat Klang.
MIC deputy president Datuk Seri S.K. Devamany and Wanita MIC chief Datuk Mohana Muniandy were the two names mentioned as potential candidates for the Kapar parliamentary seat.
For the Meru state seat, three names were submitted to BN’s top leadership for consideration.
They were Umno coordinator for Meru and Selangor state information department deputy director Khairul Anuar Saimon, Kapar division Umno Youth secretary Zaifon and division deputy chief Datuk Saroni Judi.
Four names have been shortlisted for the Sementa state seat — Datuk Saroni Judi, coordinator for Sementa and Kapar division Umno vice-chief Azhar Ayob, division Wanita chief Basiah Masjudi and division committee member Ridwan Yahya.
Three Umno candidates were shortlisted for the Selat Klang state seat — Kapar division information chief and Selat Klang coordinator Mohd Khairi Husin, division Youth chief Syuhaidi Surani, who is also special officer to Sports and Youth Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, and division committee member Azman Onn.
