Duo, including a ‘Datuk’, charged again with cheating nine people

-

KAJANG: Two men were charged last week with deceiving nine people over land transfer payments. They were charged again at the Sessions Court here yesterday with a similar offence involving more than RM630,000.

Datuk Nor Hasnal Hashmi, 49, and Sayyid Walid Hasuana, 31, both pleaded not guilty to nine charges that were read to them before judge Datin Surita Budin.

The duo were charged with cheating nine people into believing they would transfer land plots for the construction of nine houses for the victims, which led them to hand over a total of RM637,500 to Masgenuine Alliance Holdings Sdn Bhd as payment for the nonexistent land transfer.

They allegedly committed the offences at Jalan Lagenda Suria 3, Taman Lagenda Suria in Hulu Langat between October 2012 and September 2014.

The charge under Section 420 of the Penal Code carries a maximum jail sentence of 10 years, whipping and fine, if convicted.

Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Siti Noor Hafizan Zakaria offered RM150,000 bail to each of the accused.

In pleading for a minimum bail, counsel Zainal Omar, who represented Nor Hasnal, said his client was a father of 10 and was supporting seven of his schooling children.

“My client was also declared bankrupt in January, which has affected his source of income to support his family,” he said.

Counsel Ahmad Zaharil Muhaiyar, who represented Sayyid, asked for the court to impose a curfew on his client as a condition of bail.

“I plead that my client could be allowed to be outside the house from 7am to 7pm.”

The court allowed RM80,000 bail for each of the accused and ordered them to surrender their passports to the court until the disposal of the case. It will be mentioned on May 10.

On Thursday, Nor Hasnal, Sayyid and another man claimed trial at the Sessions Court in Selayang to nine counts of a similar offence involving RM700,000.
