EIGHTY students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Jalan Reko (SMKJR) in Kajang, Selangor experienced first hand taking travel and tourism photographs when they entered a competition organised and sponsored by Edaran Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd recently.

Held from February 8 to March 10, the contest saw the students trying their hand at capturing snapshots of landmarks in and around Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

Programme director Nabil Saifuddin said the purpose of the contest was to discover students’ talents in photography, expose them to tourist spots, open up experiences for the students to learn and know the proper technique of taking pictures. He also said it was to make sure the students gain as much confidence as they can get from the competition itself.

Nur Amirah Safiah Azeman, 16 emerged as the winner of the competition. Meanwhile Nur Alya Batrisya Mohammed Rani, also 16 was placed second and Adam Ridhwan, who is 15, was placed third.

Nur Amirah won a trip to Universal Studio Singapore, while Nur Alya got a trip to Legoland Malaysia and Adam, tickets to Sunway Lagoon Resort.

“The students’ work will be used to create a promotional tourism package for the company,” said Nabil.

A panel of jury comprising invited guests, teachers from SMKJR, and staff of Edaran Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd took time to deliberate and choose the winning photos.

Also present at the prize-giving and closing ceremony were representatives from Gaya Travel Nusantara Magazine, Pretty Caked Foundation, and Malaysian blogger and singer Taleeb Mizad.
