'OPPOSITION LEADERS GOING BACK ON THEIR WORD TO BRING DR M TO JUSTICE'

What happened to their vow to make Dr M pay for scandals, asks Pas info chief

PAS information chief Nasrudin Hassan has hit out at certain opposition leaders for going back on their word to make Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad face justice over past “scandals”.

He said people like DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang and Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu had, all these years, been alleging that Dr Mahathir was involved in many scandals, including the Bumiputera Malaysia Finance and Perwaja Steel issues.

Now, however, they had gone silent, said Nasrudin.

“Before Dr Mahathir joined (the opposition), Kit Siang and Mat Sabu were among those who vowed to arrest him and bring him to justice (should the opposition take over the country). So, where have all these allegations gone?”

Speaking at his home in Taman Pelindung Perdana, Beserah, Nasrudin said the opposition pact was hoping that Dr Mahathir’s presence in their ranks would bring a “Malay tsunami” which would carry them to power, but this was not easy to achieve.

In fact, he said, there would be no Malay tsunami.

He said the claim of a Malay tsunami was merely to pull the wool over the people’s eyes, as if the opposition pact was confident of winning.

In reality, Nasrudin said, there was an equal chance for all those who were contesting in the 14th General Election as there were three different sides — Barisan Nasional, the opposition pact and Pas.

“Even if a Malay tsunami occurs, they would surely vote for Pas, as we are bigger and more experienced than them... in addition, in certain matters (pertaining to Islam), they are seen as not strong enough to defend the principles of Islam.”

On the use of the PKR logo for all candidates from the opposition pact, Nasrudin said this was something that DAP had wanted all along as it believed it could get the support of the Malay community.

“As for PPBM, which is now under a provisional dissolution order, it cannot use its own logo.

“People are wondering how a party which is led by a former prime minister (Dr Mahathir) and a former deputy prime minister (Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin) could have ended up in such a quandary.

“Did they do this on purpose, so that they can use the PKR logo as theirs may not be recognised by many?”
