Najib: No compromise on sovereignty

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The Barisan Nasional government will not compromise on matters pertaining to the nation’s sovereignty, said Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

The prime minister said measures had been taken to ensure that the country and people continued to enjoy peace and harmony, and these included adopting the National Security Council Act and the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

Najib, who is also BN chairman, said the Anti-Fake News Act 2018 had been enforced to protect the people from ever-increasing fake news. He said fake and false news might seem trivial, but it was a threat to security, as had been the case in several countries where it had been used to influence the democratic process.

“And, surprisingly, this matter is supported by some opposition leaders!” he said in his blog www.najibrazak.com yesterday.

“The future of our country should be determined by Malaysians based on facts, not fake news and false promises and false hopes.”

Najib also expressed regret that certain irresponsible people were prepared to set aside national interests and encourage foreign intervention in the country due to greed for power.

He said BN would implement all the promises and initiatives outlined in its manifesto if it was given the mandate to administer the country.

These included increasing the number of security posts to monitor Malaysia’s borders and transforming elite squads of the police, such as the Special Tactics and Intelligence Narcotics Group (Sting), Special Task Force on Organised Crime (Stafoc) and Special Task Force for Anti-Vice, Gaming and Gangsterism (STAGG), for the sake of the people’s security.

He also said the BN government would combat terrorism and extremism through the Global Movement of Moderates, enhance community participation in crime prevention through the police Volunteer Smartphone Patrol application and set up the Cyberdefence Operations Centre under the Defence Ministry.

The BN government would also expand regional defence diplomacy with neighbouring countries, continue to disseminate the idea of peace and moderation throughout the world through the King Salman Centre for International Peace, and modernise the police force.

“Indeed, I am confident that so long as the Barisan Nasional continues to administer Malaysia, God willing, the country will continue to prosper and become more successful. Let’s make Malaysia great with BN!” he said.
