Liow: Najib will have the final say on seat allocation
KUALA LUMPUR: MCA will leave it to Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak to resolve issues concerning the allocation of seats for component parties.
MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said he was confident that the “closed-door” discussion with internal BN components was the best way to reach an agreement on the matter.
“We leave it to Najib to have the final say. I can inform you that all seat allocation involving component parties will only be discussed internally.”
Liow was commenting on the swapping of seats, including the hot seat of Bandar Tun Razak, between MCA and Umno.
He said this after the handing over of the 99-year land leasing offer letter for the construction of a sports complex at SMP Chong Hwa here.
Present were MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and SMP Chong Hwa school management board chairman Tan Sri Lim Keng Cheng.
Liow said BN had concluded 90 per cent of its candidate list for the 14th General Election (GE14).
On Monday’s meeting with the prime minister, Liow said Najib had expressed appreciation for the loyalty of BN members of parliament to the party.
“Najib appreciated our contributions and hoped that that we (BN leaders) will deliver (results in GE14). We are confident that people will stand by BN based on our performance in the past five years.”
In Putrajaya, MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said the party had finalised its candidate list and was waiting for Najib to set the date and announce the names.
He said it was likely that an MIC candidate would contest the Cameron Highlands parliamentary seat, but declined to elaborate.
