DAP’s action reeks of cowardice, says Ti

-

GEORGE TOWN: MCA has described DAP’s action in surrendering its right to claim the Perak menteri besar’s post if the opposition comes into power in the state as an act of cowardice.

MCA publicity spokesman Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker said it was obvious that DAP was afraid of something if it gave up the right to claim the post so easily.

“Why should a political party that aspires for racial equality and a Malaysian Malaysia so quickly give up its political right to claim the MB’s post? After all, it is constitutionally, politically and democratically correct.

“One wonders what happened to DAP’s promise to the nonMalays, especially the Chinese, of a more equal playing field?

“Unlike MCA, which is a Chinese-based Barisan Nasional component party, DAP is a multiracial party, which has a right to hold the Perak MB post if it obtains the rakyat’s mandate,” he said.

Ti questioned if DAP supporters were being taken for a ride by its leaders, who were making empty promises.

He said this in response to reports quoting DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang as saying that the party would not claim the state MB’s post if the opposition wrested the state in the 14th General Election (GE14).

Ti said in the past, DAP had also given up its rights to be the opposition leader in Parliament, despite commanding the highest number of parliamentary seats.

“Lim had, in the past, given up his opposition leader’s post to Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and others, despite DAP receiving the political mandate to lead.

“This smells of DAP’s cowardice and is a direct contradiction to the party’s advocacy of an equal playing field, cutting across racial barriers,” he said, adding that DAP had also given up its rocket logo in favour of another party’s logo to contest in GE14.

Ti said as witnessed in the past, DAP once again seemed to be making U-turn on non-racial politics and was instead accepting Malay politics and dominance.

“If DAP can so quickly neglect and overlook all it has preached, just think of how much quicker it would be to turn its back on the rakyat,” he said.
