PNB TO BUILD 5,000 AFFORDABLE HOMES
Priority for married couples earning less than RM5,000, says group chairman
PERMODALAN Nasional Bhd (PNB) is boosting the development of affordable housing with the construction of 5,000 homes in Selangor and Negri Sembilan.
PNB group chairman Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar said 140 single-storey terrace houses had been built in Bagan Pinang here to enable those in the Bottom 40 and Middle 40 income groups to own homes.
He said the 1,000 sq ft landed houses came with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, and were priced between RM180,000 and RM200,000.
“This is the first project in Bagan Pinang, in line with the government’s aim to provide more affordable homes to the people.
“About 5,000 houses will be built in Pedas and Rembau in Negri Sembilan and Banting in Selangor. The project in Bagan Pinang will be the pilot project,” he said at the launch of the PNB Value Homes project in Bagan Pinang here.
The event was launched by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
Present was PNB group chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Rahman Ahmad.
Wahid said the project, under PNB subsidiary PNB Value Homes Sdn Bhd, would begin in June and was expected to be completed in June 2020.
“The projects are being developed through an industrial building system, which prioritises married couples aged 21 and above, with a household income of not more than RM5,000.
“They are located near public facilities, such as schools, clinics and police stations.”
He said PNB did not only serve as an investment institute, but also helped the government provide affordable homes through its corporate social responsibility programmes.
“Having a home is a necessity and contributes to the people’s wellbeing.
“PNB is pleased to support the government’s initiative to develop affordable homes.
“Ever since I was given the mandate as group chairman, (Prime Minister) Datuk Seri Najib Razak has not only asked me to renew the company’s profile and finances, but also provide as many affordable homes as possible.”
Mohamad lauded PNB’s efforts to fulfil the government’s aspiration to build affordable homes.
He said escalating prices of houses had become a problem for the government and therefore, corporations should help provide affordable homes.
