JUDGE VISITS CRIME SCENE

Parties involved in trial retrace route taken by Morais before his abduction

-

THE judge and parties involved in the murder trial of deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Datuk Anthony Kevin Morais yesterday visited three locations in Jalan Dutamas here, including the location where he was abducted.

The two other locations were Morais’ house at Menara Duta Condominium in Jalan Dutamas Raya, and the location where a Mitsubishi Triton four-wheeldrive (4WD) with four men inside crashed into the Proton Perdana driven by Morais.

High Court judge Datuk Azman Abdullah, together with the prosecution team, headed by DPP Saiful Edris Zainuddin, the defence and the accused — R. Dinishwaran, A.K. Thinesh Kumar, M. Vishwanath, S. Nimalan, S. Ravi Chandaran and army doctor Colonel Dr R. Kunaseegaran — went to the locations at 9.30am.

They gathered at the Jalan Duta Court Complex and travelled to the Menara Duta Condominium, about 1.4km away, before going to the traffic light intersection, 500m away, where the crash occurred.

On the day of the abduction, Nimalan was at the wheel of the 4WD, with Dinishwaran, Thinesh Kumar and Vishwanath as passengers.

They then went to the location where Morais and Nimalan had stopped their vehicles before the former was abducted.

However, Dr Kunaseegaran remained inside the police lorry as he was not with the other accused when the crash and abduction occurred.

DPP Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin said the purpose of the visits was to provide a better understanding of the case.

Dinishwaran, 26; Thinesh Kumar, 25; Vishwanath, 28, Nimalan, 25; Ravi Chandaran, 47; and Dr Kunaseegaran, 55, had pleaded not guilty to the charge of murdering Morais, 55, between 7am and 8pm on Sept 4, 2015, while he was on his way from Jalan Dutamas 1 in Sentul to No. 1, Jalan USJ 1/6D in Subang Jaya.

They were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code and faced the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

Morais’ remains were found in a concrete-filled drum in Persiaran Subang Mewah in Subang Jaya, near here, on Sept 16, 2015.
