UTC to be set up in Teluk Intan

-

TELUK INTAN: Datuk Seri Najib Razak yesterday announced the setting up of an urban transformation centre (UTC) and the construction of 500 units under the People’s Housing Project (PPR).

He said the UTC was a popular initiative of the government and that these facilities had recorded almost 70 million visitors.

“There is a bright future for UTCs, unlike the (proposed) Penang tunnel where there is no light yet at the end of it,” he said in jest.

Najib said the PPR houses here would be developed in two phases, with 250 units in each phase.

“I leave it to the state government and the (incoming) MP to find a suitable location,” he said.

Najib said the government would provide funds to instal floodlights at the mini stadium of SMK Seri Kandi in Selabak here, adding that he would ensure implementation of the project.

Najib said the people in Penang had been cheated because there was more hillslope development now than during the administration of the Barisan Nasional state government under Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon as the chief minister.

He said Koh had maintained the environment well, adding that the current Penang government had promised not to raise water tariffs but had done so four times.

“In Selangor, the political leaders get the votes, the people get pails,” he said, referring to the water supply problem in Selangor.

“That’s the opposition government. Do not be cheated. You cannot depend on those people.”

Najib urged the people of Teluk Intan to continue supporting Barisan Nasional, saying much more development could be implemented in the constituency.

He said the people must elect a representative through whom they could derive benefits.

Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong said that three years from now the successful applicants from the low-income B40 group in the constituency would receive the keys to 150 units of PPR houses.
