‘WHAT TO GAIN IF MCA, GERAKAN ARE NO MORE?’

MCA spokesman claims DAP trying to take over Chinese representation

- AUDREY DERMAWAN GEORGE TOWN news@nst.com.my

MCA has challenged DAP to come clean on its real intention to eliminate MCA and Gerakan from the national political scene.

MCA publicity spokesman Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker said yesterday DAP’s sole interest was to take over the Chinese political representation.

“The party is desperately seeking to be part of the Federal Government. Therefore, DAP has no issues selling its principles, making U-turns and kissing up to any Malay political personality who can assist in its political ambitions,” he said.

In the past, Ti said DAP had kowtow to Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (Semangat 46), the late Datuk Fadzil Noor and Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang (Pas), Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (PKR), Mohamad Sabu (Parti Amanah Negara), and now, to Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia).

“DAP has been the greatest of Dr Mahathir’s critics when he was in office.

“Its supremo, Lim Kit Siang, had predicted ‘time bombs’ and ‘doomsday’ for Malaysia year after year, and had even alleged that Dr Mahathir was the most corrupt prime minister, No. 1 racist and most rampant power abuser.”

Ti said, in truth, DAP under Lim had practiced dictatorship, and camouflaged itself perfectly under the name “Democratic Action Party”.

Lim, he said, had a history of sidelining leaders who did not agree with him and would not tolerate dissent within the party.

He said DAP was portraying itself as a multiracial party when, in fact, it was a Chinese party as admitted by its Malay leader, Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, recently.

“It is this dictatorial style of Lim that has called for the elimination of MCA and Gerakan from the national political scene. He cannot tolerate challenges or competition.

“The question is, what will the Chinese gain by removing or eliminating MCA and Gerakan? “Comparing apple to apple, MCA and Gerakan have served the Chinese community more effectively.

“Besides DAP’s relentless political rhetoric and continuous attacks on MCA’s weakness, it has nothing much to show in terms of delivery and service.”

He said in its two terms of governing Penang, the party had brought hardship to the poor, increased high-end developments and allowed corruption to occur.

“In the past, when the party was weak, it pleaded for a twoparty system, check-and-balance and many others.

“Now that it is stronger by working with ‘the devils’, it wants to permanently remove MCA and Gerakan from the political scene.

“If there is no MCA or Gerakan in future, can the Chinese trust DAP’s unprincipled, couldn’t care less politics of expediency?

“The party has made U-turns and swallowed its pride by embracing Dr Mahathir as its future prime minister, despite attacking him viciously for decades.”
