HADI WILL NOT DEFEND RHU RENDANG STATE SEAT
Pas president, deputy will contest only parliamentary seats, says sec-gen
PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang will not defend the Rhu Rendang state seat and will only contest a parliamentary seat in the 14th General Election (GE14).
Pas secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan confirmed this after a press conference at the party headquarters in Jalan Raja Laut yesterday.
He said Pas deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man would also only contest a parliamentary seat.
“We have finalised our list of GE14 candidates. We will contest in no fewer than 160 seats, and are finalising seats involving component parties in Gagasan Sejahtera,” he said.
Earlier, Takiyuddin said Pas would announce the list of GE14 candidates today.
He said the candidates would come not only from Pas, but would also include Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia (Ikatan) and the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Front (Berjasa).
“The Pas state commissioners will make the announcement in their states, except in Pahang, where (Datuk) Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man will make the announcement,” he said.
He, however, said this would not include Sabah, Sarawak and Kelantan, where the announcement would be made on another date.
He said Sarawak and Sabah would make the announcement on April 21 and 22, while Kelantan would make its announcement on April 25.
“We will contest under the name of Gagasan Sejahtera, where Ikatan and Berjasa will use the Pas logo. Others (political parties friendly to Gagasan Sejahtera) will use their own logo.”
He said all candidates of Gagasan Sejahtera would sign the bai’ah pledge for GE14. However, he said, the pledge would not contain the clause for talak tiga (Islamic divorce).
Takiyuddin denied allegations that Pas received RM90 million from Umno.
“We have never received contributions from Umno,” he said, adding that Pas depends on membership fees and contributions for its funding.
