‘Dr M must accept that Najib’s economic plan is better’

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The time has come for Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to accept the fact that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has a better economic plan for the country.

Umno information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa said the opposition pact’s manifesto, which promised to abolish the Goods and Services Tax (GST) if they formed the government, would only place the nation in a more serious economic predicament.

“Dr Mahathir’s rule was more than 20 years ago and at that time, the economic situation was different from what it is now.

“If Dr Mahathir is seeking a return to his era, it will only cause the economy to go backwards.

“The time has come to accept the fact that Najib has a better and more comprehensive economic plan for the people,” he said.

He was speaking at an Umno Online discussion titled “BN Manifesto has rendered PH irrelevant”.

Present were Dewan Negara Senator Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin, BN Youth leader Muhammad Ameerul Haziq and lawyer Allena Razif.

Annuar said the opposition’s move in trying to poison the minds of the rakyat by pledging the abolishment of GST showed that the promise offered in the manifesto was not grounded.

“How can the opposition abolish the GST if the country’s income is largely dependent on the collection of taxes from the private sector and those who have the capacity? “The country needs funds to stand head and shoulders with other countries as a developed nation in the long run. By promising this (abolishing the GST), it is only fishing for votes, but it cannot be fulfilled,” he said.

Megat Zulkarnain said the people had wisely assessed the opposition’s weaknesses via the manifesto.

“There are still many promises yet to be fulfilled. And now, it is trying to cloud the voters’ minds with new promises, supposedly in the interest of the people.

“I still remember the pact’s manifesto from its ‘Buku Jingga’ in GE13; none of the promises were fulfilled.

“I believe Malaysians are wise enough to assess who can take the country to a higher level without forgoing unity and harmony,” he said.
