MCA to contest 8 parliamentary seats, 15 state seats in Johor
BATU PAHAT: Johor MCA will contest eight parliamentary and 15 state seats in the 14th General Election (GE14).
MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong will defend the Ayer Hitam parliamentary seat.
The incumbents in the Labis and Tanjung Piai parliamentary seats, as well as the Pulai Sebatang state seat, will defend their positions.
They are MCA vicepresident Datuk Chua Tee Yong (Labis), who is deputy international trade and industry minister; Datuk Seri Wee Jeck Seng (Tanjung Piai); and former state tourism, domestic trade and consumerism committee chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong (Pulai Sebatang).
Johor MCA sprang a surprise when it announced businessman and Muar Furniture Association president Koh Chon Chai as candidate for the Bakri parliamentary seat.
This was in spite of him not holding any position in the party.
The candidates were unveiled by party president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai here yesterday.
Liow described the state party’s candidates as a line-up comprising old and new faces capable of “giving a surprise” in GE14.
“MCA is confident that the candidates can help BN defend Johor as its stronghold.”
Wee said the list of candidates was finalised during a discussion with Prime Minister and BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
