Hadi: We should be protecting Palestinians
KUALA LUMPUR: Pas has condemned the killing of Dr Fadi M.R. Albatsh, a Palestinian imam who was also a lecturer at Universiti Kuala Lumpur.
“We express our condolences to the deceased’s family members, and we will take responsibility for their affairs. We are saddened by the murder of a Palestinian in Malaysia.
“We should give them protection and security,” said Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.
He said the idea that Mossad and Zionist agents could be penetrating the country’s borders was disturbing.
He said Mossad was known for assassinating Muslim leaders throughout the world, including in Western countries, adding that it had happened in the United Arab Emirates, Tunisia and Lebanon.
Mossad is Israel’s national intelligence agency.
Hadi urged the government to investigate the killing and be cautious with Israel.
He said Israel was known for committing terrorism while hiding under the protection of major powers.
Malaysian Islamic Organisation Consultative Council (Mapim) urged the authorities to expedite investigations into the motive behind the killing.
In condemning the murder, Mapim president Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid said investigations must be carried out swiftly to ensure Malaysia did not become a hub for contract killings.
“Public shootings by contract killers could mean that there is a criminal syndicate targeting victims in Malaysia.
“The killing of Palestinians have happened in other countries and involved Mossad.
“Besides this, the killing of a Korean citizen (Kim Jong-nam at klia2 on Feb 13 last year) shows that there is an attempt to make Malaysia a place to launch operations by criminal syndicates.”
He said Fadi’s murder was saddening.
“The 10 shots on Fadi show that the murder was planned.”
“Mapim extends its condolences to the family of the deceased and hopes they will be patient in facing this hardship.”
The Global Movement of Moderates (GMM) said it was disturbed by the murder of Fadi.
“We strongly condemn this heinous crime and call for the law enforcement agencies to investigate and determine the motive behind what looks to be a carefully-planned murder and to prosecute those responsible to the full extent of the law.
“On behalf of GMM, we would like to offer our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the late imam’s family during this difficult period of time,” said its executive chairman and chief executive officer, Datuk Dr Nasharudin Mat Isa.
