UTM grads welcome new opportunities
WHEN the time came to decide on his tertiary education, Muhamad Amirul Hazim Anuar, 26, knew he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps and study at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).
His father, Ir Anuar Abdullah, is an electrical engineering graduate from the university. Now, after earning his degree in quantity surveying from the same higher-learning institution, Amirul has opened his own company, Urusan Mega Padu Bina, and is working as the managing director.
Since enrolling in a diploma course in 2010, Amirul has never looked back, and is always on the lookout for new opportunities to increase his knowledge and experience.
He is inspired to become a quantity surveyor by his parents, especially his mother, who works in the construction industry.
He chose to study at UTM because it is his father’s alma mater, and also because of the university’s reputation as a centre of excellence in engineering, science and management.
Amirul said the lecturers are renowned in their fields and the campus is well-equipped.
“The lecturers guided each and everyone of us so we could master the knowledge required.”
UTM’s diploma courses are a good choice for SPM school leavers, who want to further their studies in engineering, science or management.
Among those offered for the June intake are the Diploma in Electrical Engineering (power), Diploma in Electrical Engineering (mechatronic), Diploma in Electronic Engineering, Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Diploma in Civil Engineering, Diploma in Computer Science (information technology), Diploma in Computer Science (multimedia), Diploma in Quantity Surveying, Diploma in Land Surveying, Diploma in Property Management, Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning, Diploma in Architecture, Diploma in Technology Management and Diploma in Technology Management (accounting).
Alumna Noor Masmalyanah Masli, 26, feels extremely blessed to have studied at UTM.
Like Amirul, her journey began as a diploma student until she graduated with a degree in land surveying.
Now working in an oil and gas company, Masmalyanah said she enjoyed her studies because the university had the best facilities and infrastructure to cater to the needs of the industry.
“I really enjoyed my time at UTM. The university has invested a lot to ensure that its facilities are on a par with those used by big engineering companies.”
Based on their experience, Masmalyanah and Amirul fully encourage school leavers to consider studying at UTM.
They believe students should grab all opportunities that come their way and embrace new experiences in their pursuit.
UTMSPACE is coordinating the intake of UTM diploma programmes. Applicants can apply directly to the university to enrol in the programme of their choice.
Entry requirements are a minimum grade of C in six Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia subjects.
Courses will be conducted at the UTM campus in Kuala Lumpur in Jalan Sultan Yahya Petra. It is near the National Library and KLCC Twin Towers, and easily accessible via public transport.
Application for intake is open until April 30. Those interested may register at https://intake.utmspace.edu.my/register.
