PHOTOFITS OF PALESTINIAN’S SUSPECTED KILLERS POSTED AT EXIT POINTS

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Photofits of two men suspected of gunning down Palestinian lecturer and imam Dr Fadi M.R. Albatsh here on Saturday have been put on display at the country’s main exit points.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the suspects are believed to be of European or Middle Eastern descent.

“The photofits were done by our experts based on witnesses’ statements.

“The men were fair, well-built and had beards. They were about 180cm tall and were riding either a black BMW GS or a black Kawasaki Versys during the (attack),” he said at the Malaysian Police Training Centre yesterday.

He added that the suspects were wearing black jackets and motorcycle helmets.

When asked whether the men might still be in the country, Fuzi said: “We have not determined this. We have to seek assistance from local and international agencies.”

Fadi was gunned down in front of the Idaman Puteri condominium in Setapak as he was walking to Surau Medan Idaman to lead the subuh prayers at 6am on Saturday.

According to an initial postmortem report, the victim died of multiple gunshot wounds to the head and body.

“Forensic pathologists retrieved 14 bullets from the victim’s body. We will send the bullets to our weapons expert to identify the type of gun used,” Fuzi said.

Meanwhile, Fuzi appealed to those who witnessed any suspicious activity between 5am and 7am at the scene on Saturday to come forward and help facilitate police’s investigation into the murder.

Those with information can contact the investigating officer, Assistant Superintendent Shahrizal Salleh, at 017 713 4705 or Wangsa Maju district Criminal Investigation Department chief Assistant Superintendent Khairil Idzwan Ahmad at 019 359 2582.

In a statement later, City police chief Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said the two men, believed to be foreigners, fired at least 20 times at Fadi before fleeing the scene via Jalan Meranti, Setapak.
