‘KAYVEAS SACKED FOR ABUSING PARTY FOR PERSONAL AGENDA’

Supreme council claims he was fired due to actions deemed damaging to party

IN the latest twist to Tan Sri M. Kayveas’ resignation saga, the People’s Progressive Party Supreme Council (MyPPP) has come out to claim that he was sacked, due to actions deemed damaging to the party.

The explanation came just hours after Kayveas announced his resignation from the party and other related posts on social media yesterday.

Its deputy secretary-general, Datuk Simon Sabapathy, said the leadership had fired Kayveas prior to his announcement.

He acknowledged that the party had received Kayveas’ resignation letter yesterday.

Sabapathy said the party decided to sack him following a letter, dated April 24, from Barisan Nasional secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

He said the letter noted some of the actions and statements made by Kayveas that were considered potentially damaging to the relationship between MyPPP, BN and other component parties.

“The party’s Supreme Council held a meeting and decided that Kayveas should not be acting alone on important matters such as the distribution of seats.

“This is against the party’s constitution... because of that, we decide that Kayveas should be fired,” he said in a press conference held after Kayveas’ surprise announcement on his Twitter account yesterday morning.

Kayveas tweeted that he had resigned as MyPPP president, Federal Territories’ MyPPP chairman and Perak state adviser, effective April 23.

Meanwhile, MyPPP secretary-general Mohan Kandasamy said following Kayveas’ sacking, party vicepresident Maglin D'Cruz would be acting president.

Kayveas’ resignation came just two weeks before the nation goes to the polls on May 9.

It was believed that his decision to step down was due to his failure to secure candidacy for the Cameron Highlands parliamentary seat lobbied by the party.

BN has named MIC Youth chief Datuk C. Sivaraajh as candidate for the seat.
