‘DR M IS MALAYSIA’S TOP ACTOR’

Najib says Dr M can’t be trusted after Anwar U-turn

- HIDIR REDUAN AND ABDUL RAZAK RAAFF

FORMER prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is Malaysia’s No. 1 actor for befriending his nemesis, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Najib said Dr Mahathir making amends with Anwar, his former deputy prime minister, showed that Dr Mahathir was someone whom the people could not trust. “He had called Anwar manusia paling dahsyat (the worst kind of person).

“Then, suddenly, at court, he (Dr Mahathir) shook hands with Anwar. What is this?

“He is the No. 1 actor. The best actor. This kind of person cannot be relied on.

“One must have ethics.

“I am not making this up. This is fact. I cannot do it, but he can,” said Najib, who is Barisan Nasional chairman, at a meet-the-people programme here yesterday.

He was referring to Dr Mahathir shaking hands with Anwar at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Sept 5, 2016.

The public rapprochement was significant because Dr Mahathir and Anwar had a fallout when the latter was kicked out of the government in 1998.

To a crowd of more than 2,000 residents, Najib said Dr Mahathir was being used by DAP to split Malays in the run-up to the 14th General Election (GE14).

He said this was critical as the people could either choose BN, which had administered the country for several decades, or the DAP-led opposition pact.

“Dr Mahathir is being used by DAP to split Malay support. DAP is trying to show that it is friendly with Malays. This is a lie.

“Does DAP help those in rural areas?” Najib asked rhetorically, receiving affirmation from the audience.

Cheers erupted when Najib announced that an Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) would be built in the district.

No date was given on when construction would begin.

He launched the upgrading of Jerantut District Hospital. The hospital will get a new block with a capacity of 30 beds, an emergency and trauma department, outpatient treatment department and a specialist clinic.

The hospital has 77 beds. It began operations in 1977, but was officially opened in 1979.

Najib announced the construction of four clinics in Kampung Labu, Kampung Kuala Tahan, Kampung Sungai Tekam Utara and Kampung Padang Piol here.

The upgrades and construction would cost RM25.4 million.

Present were Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob and Jerantut Umno division chief Datuk Ahmad Nazlan Idris.
