‘Women’s voices can bring change’

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The voices of women can bring an extraordinary wave that can strengthen their welfare and role under the Barisan Nasional government.

Wanita BN chief Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said this was because 51 per cent of voters in Malaysia were women.

“Today, who (makes up) 51 per cent of voters? We, women. Who determines the direction and course of the nation?

“Who really determines which party wins the general election? We, women.

“Remember, that women’s voices can bring an extraordinary wave.

“Therefore, in welcoming the mandate by the prime minister (Datuk Seri Najib Razak), to continue to ensure the happiness of women, we, with full enthusiasm, push for 364 (BN manifesto) initiatives, 14 thrusts and 25 initiatives specially for women,” she said.

Loud cheers from more than 5,000 women in attendance greeted Shahrizat’s speech during the launch of the Ratu Hati Negaraku event at Dewan Merdeka, Putra World Trade Centre on Tuesday night.

Shahrizat said BN had administered the country for more than six decades and during that period, 70 per cent of women had enrolled in institutes of higher learning, 54.3 per cent in the workforce, and 51 per cent of voters were women.

She said BN did not promise the moon and stars, but made promises only to brighten the future of women.

“The other component leaders of Wanita BN and I will ensure that we fulfil every pledge I have made for women in Malaysia.

“This is the manifesto. This is the promise of Wanita BN and what we promise, we fulfil. What we promise, we do.”
