Two PCM candidates in Penang

-

PRAI: Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM) will field two candidates in the 14th General Election.

Its deputy president, Datuk Huan Cheng Guan, 57, will contest the Bagan parliamentary seat while party member R. Manikandan, 40, will contest the Air Putih state seat. Both seats are held by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

Huan said the party leadership decided to contest only the two seats in the state.

He said Penang had been plagued by numerous issues and scandals since DAP led the state government 10 years ago.

He said there had been more than 100 flash floods in the state between 2013 and last year, adding that state land had been sold rampantly.

“What is left for the future generation? I am aware that I may lose, but I must fight.

“I will take up all these issues to reveal the shortcomings and weaknesses of the state government.

“I will talk only on issues and not hit below the belt,” he said, warning DAP supporters to respect his intention or risk “having more of the party’s dirt revealed”.

Huan claimed that the state government was not serious in addressing issues, but more interested in politicking.

“My aim is to get Lim out and then I will quit politics for good.

“We are okay if other opposition leaders lead Penang, just not Lim.”

He fired the first salvo at Lim, saying that of the more than 2,000 candidates to contest the general election in parliamentary and state seats nationwide, the latter was the only one facing corruption charges.

“From what I know, the other candidates are clean and have no problems.

“In DAP’s case, it axes the clean ones, but keeps those with issues.

“By convention, Lim should step aside and take leave to clear his name, and only then make a comeback.”

Manikandan, an IT contractor, said he would raise local issues faced by the people of Air Putih.

“I am a local and I know the ins and outs of Air Putih. We have been hit by flash floods and landslides, among others.”

He said although it would not be easy, he was willing to take on the challenge.

Bagan and Air Putih are expected to see multi-cornered fights.

On Tuesday, Penang Barisan Nasional announced that it would field MCA Youth chief Lee Beng Seng in Bagan and Tang Heap Seng in Air Putih.
